Enough already!

This everything-around-me-breaking situation has got to stop. Now!

One friend asked if I was contagious. Why? Her washing machine broke. One of my Twitter friends said her dryer was acting up and joked that she might have to stop following me. And yesterday when  I was at the bank the teller’s monitor started flashing. I swear I never touched it!

Here’s the latest update: Less than three weeks after having a faulty thermostat replaced on my 2-year old refrigerator, it started acting up again. Last time the freezer was too cold and the refrigerator was warm. This time, the fridge was okay and the freezer was too warm even after I gradually increased the setting from 4 to 7 ( 7 being the coldest setting possible).

Sorry, but when you kick the freezer up to the coldest setting the ice cream shouldn’t be the consistency of half-melted soft serve (it was way softer than a Wendy’s Frosty), and a frozen loaf of bread shouldn’t be squishy.

So the friendly appliance repairman was back this morning. The refrigerator still isn’t defrosting. He’s hoping one of the drains or vents might be blocked from ice that broke loose or melted and refroze the LAST time it wasn’t defrosting, but he said the main control panel failed the defrost diagnostic (which he said MIGHT be because it tried but couldn’t defrost due to a blockage). So he got out the heat gun (again) and defrosted it (again) so it should stay cool a couple more days. He said he’ll order the control panel just in case. He’ll be back Thursday, and if there’s ice on the bottom of the freezer by then, he’ll know it’s a drainage issue.

The good news? The ice hasn’t (yet) built up behind the back panel like last time.

Thankfully the new air conditioner is working since our forecast has four consecutive 100+ degree days.  Apparently I’ve also broken the weather. I’m just glad that the things that keep breaking are merely things.

Now I’m curious: Anyone else experiencing the complete revolt of everything they own?

Please do not call me text me email me or even think of me…LOL not really
my power flicked off last night for 1 min but I was really bummed for that min. after the last several years of storms knocking out our power in the grove. like you say it could be worse & it’s just things…but it’s my things!!!!!!

The last thing any of us needs is for the power to go out!

My TV is hanging on – there’s usually a “kink” in the picture, and it doesn’t turn off the same way it used to. But it’s still watchable. And if it goes, I have a little 13″ TV that I can hook up if necessary. (The “big” TV is only 19″ or 20″ so it’s not as if I can read the weather warnings on some channels anyway.)

I hope the green line isn’t too distracting!

Good news (I hope). The repair guy said it seems to be the drainage problem (meaning no expensive parts, hooray!). He cleaned it out to make sure nothing could block the drainage hole but told me to check now and then for water or ice on the bottom of the freezer.

And to anyone with newer refrigerators, it turns out that the popping sound you hear now and then happens when the refrigerator is defrosting. Until I heard it popping the other day I hadn’t realized it had been a while since I’d heard that sound. Suddenly a sound that used to annoy me now tells me the defroster is actually working!
